My New Word

December 1, 2008

I decided to invent a new word. This word is the opposite of “livable.” I’m calling it “leaveable.” While everything about a livable city makes you want to stay, everything about a leaveable city makes you want to leave. There are no or very few great public spaces, very little bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, urban sprawl is everywhere, and the national chain stores and restaurants have filled the shopping areas such that there is nothing unique about the place. There are already lists of the country’s most livable cities, so I will start a list of the country’s most leaveable cities.  Stay tuned for the first city to make the cut.
